About Us

GRANDMASTER KIM & THE ACTA

The ACTA was founded in 1976 by Grandmaster Kim In-mook and can trace its roots directly to Grandmaster Lee Won-kuk, who founded Chung Do Kwan and developed the largest civilian gym in Korea

Grandmaster Kim In-mook

Grandmaster Kim In-mook is the Founder of Kim’s Academy of Tae Kwon Do, the American Chung Do Kwan Tae Kwon Do Association (ACTA), and KimRaDo Forms.

1934

Born in Seoul, South Korea

1940

Grand Master Kim witnessed an incredible demonstration by the Buddhist Monks at the Temple of Gumkang Mountain, which was his first impression of martial arts.

1953

Achieved 1st Dan Black Belt at the Chung Do Kwan Central DoJang. Early on he became a member of the Black Belt Demo Team and was made captain of the Hong Ik University Tae Kwon Do Team.

1957-1960

Became the Chief Instructor of the 1st Army Corp as well as the Chief instructor at the Republic of Korea’s Headquarters.

1964

As a 5th Dan Black Belt, Grandmaster Kim was appointed the President and Chief Instructor of the Ui Jong-Bu Chung Do Kwan Branch.

1967

Grandmaster Kim earned a 6th Dan Black Belt from General Choi Hong Hi, founder if the International Tae Kwon Do Federation (ITF).

1968

Grandmaster Kim was appointed the ITF Mid-West Instructor and an ambassador of Chang Heon ITF Forms. This is when he opened up his school in Des Moines, Iowa.

1976

While in the United States Grandmaster Kim continued his dedication to the art of Chung Do Kwan and established the American Chung Do Kwan Tae Kwon Do Association (ACTA)

1990

Earned his 9th Dan Black Belt directly from the founder of Chung Do Kwan, Grandmaster Lee Won-Kuk.

TODAY

The ACTA continues Grandmaster Kim’s legacy by teaching the values and principles of Chung Do Kwan today. With schools around the country the legacy of the ACTA has been spread to hundreds of students over the years. As a marker of this success, Grandmaster Kim has awarded 9th Dan Black belts to five of his own students, James Brockway, Choi Jin-Wook, Richard Dolski, Kim Ki-wook, and James Perron.
